Manipulate the found files

There are two panes in the result tab.
The left pane is the duplicate groups. The right one is the file list in each group.
If you select to search files only, not search duplicate, only the right file list will be shown.

You can perform many operations on the search result. To see what you can do, select some files in the search result, then right click on them. If the context menu is explorer style, click the first menu item 'Operations'. You can also click 'Operations' on the main menu.

Explanations of the menu items:

Quick viewer: A float window will be shown after you click it. In that window, you can view many kinds of files content quickly without leave FileCake. Click here for more information.

Select all: Select all files.
Deselect all: Mark all files as unselected.

Explorer the path: Open the path in which the selected file stays in the Windows Explorer.

Open/Execute: Open focused file, or run it if it's executable program. The fast way to do this is double clicking on a file or press key Enter.

Rename: Rename the focused file to another name.

Create Shortcut: Create shorcuts in selected files' location for a master file. For more information, click here

Batch process: Batch process selected files. Click here for more information.

Copy files information: Copy the files' information such like file name, file size to the clipboard. It's useful if you want to get the files' MD5. And you can paste them to another file list.

Paste files information: Paste the files' information from the clipboard.

Delete from list: Delete selected items from the file list, but doesn't delete the physical files. This is useful to delete important files from the file list before future damageable operations such as deleting or wiping files.

Compute checksum (MD5): Compute the selected files' MD5. If the MD5 has been computed, it won't be computed again.

Reset checksum (MD5): Clear the selected files' MD5. This is useful when you want to compute some files' MD5 even if they've been computed.

Copy To: Copy the selected files to a destination directory.

Keep directory structures: When copy/move files, build the same directory structures as same as of the source files.
For example, if the source file is c:\doc\what.txt and destination directory is d:\test, then what.txt will be copy/move to d:\test\c\doc\what.txt.

Move To: Move the selected files to a destination directory.

When copy/move files, a dialog box will show you current progress and speed.
You can adjust the copy/move speed by moving the slider to left to decrease or right to increase the speed.
When you are copying/moving large files, you may want to decrease the speed so the hard disk won't be too busy.

Delete empty directories: When any files are moved, if the source directory is empy (has no any files in it), it will be deleted.

If FileCake detects there is a same name file in the destination directory, or the file is readonly, a confirmation dialog box will pop up.

There are five actions,
Overwrite: Overwrite the destination file with the source file.
Skip: Skip the same name file.
Cancel: Cancel all copy/move process.
Auto rename: Automatically rename the source file to a unique name. FileCake will append a number at the end of file name to create a unique name.
Rename: Rename the source file with a customized name.

Use this option for all files: Don't confirm again, apply current action to all consequent files.

Copy files: Copy the selected files to the clipboard, then you can paste them in the Windows Explorer.

Cut files: Cut the selected files to the clipboard, then you can paste them in the Windows Explorer.

FileCake also supports drag and drop capability, so you can drag the selected file from FileCake then drop them to Windows Explorer.

Delete: Delete the selected files to the system recycle bin.

Delete directly: Delete the selected files permanently, you can't recover it from the system recycle bin. But the deleted files can be recovered by some system utility. To make the files can't be recovers, wipe them.

Delete empty directories: When any files are deleted, if the source directory is empy (has no any files in it), it will be deleted.

Delete/Copy/Move in FileCake VS delete/copy/move in Windows Explorer
When you delete, copy or move files in Windows Explorer, all process will fail if any one file can't be deleted, copied or moved.
In FileCake, the program won't stop and will show a report if any files can't be deleted, copied or moved.
And for copy and move files, if there are same name files in the destination directory, FileCake allows you to rename the source files.

Wipe: Wipe the selected files that make the files can't be recovered. Click here for more information.

Other operations that aren't listed in the menu:
Search items: Ctrl+F to start searching. You can type the letters you want to search, or press Tab or Shift+Tab to switch between each columns.

Searching in result: One of the powerful feature of FileCake is searching in result.

Continue search: If you break a searching before finished, you can continue the searching.
