| Add directories to search |
|
|

Button Add: After click it, a dialog box will be shown to let you select a directory. Button Delete: Delete selected directory from the list. You can also delete the selected directory by press key 'Del' in the list box. Button Special: Select special and your favorite directory in the pop up menu. Special folders are a set of folders that let you quickly select them. The folders include most system folders, and you can also customize to add or delete any folders.
Other ways to add directories: 1, Drag the directories from Windows Explorer, then drop them to the list box. If files are included in the dragging object, the directory will be extracted from the file names. 2, Use Folder Viewer. 3, Double click on the directory list then edit or add any directory. 4, Right click on the directory list then select in the pop up menu.
Search local area network (LAN) with FileCake: FileCake can not only search files but also enumerate all machines in your local network. With this feature, you can easily find shared mp3, video, or any other documents from your colleagues' share folders. To search LAN, right click on the directory list then select 'Add' in the pop up menu. 1, Search shared files: same as local files, just input the universal naming convention (UNC) path. For example, if you want to search Alice's machine in shared folder 'mydoc', type '\\alice\mydoc' in the edit dialog box. 2, Search whole machine: simply input the machine name with '\\' prefixed. For example, '\\alice'. 3, Search whole LAN: just input '\\'. 4, Search in certain domain. If you're in a large LAN, for example, the LAN covers several countries and has more than one domain, you maybe can't reach many LAN resource and searching those resources will waste your much time. To avoid those resources, you can only search in the domain you've login to. To set the domain, input '\\\\', then your domain control server name. For example, if you've logged on to domain 'yourcompany', then input '\\\\yourcompany'.
Include directories and Exclude directories: There are two directory lists on the main panel, one is 'Include', and the other is 'Exclude'. The directories in the 'Include' list are used as the search target. The directories in the 'Exclude' list will be ignored during search. The 'Exclude' list is hidden by default. To show it, click 'Exclude' label at the right of the main panel.
Customize the special directories: In the pop up menu from special button, select 'Customize', and then you can configure the special directories in the dialog box. Special directories allow you to access them quickly. You can set your most frequently used directories here, and FileCake also provides several pre-defined directories such like Windows system path, Temporary Internet Files, etc. |
