Select menu File->Preference to config AutoSave.
There are two tabs on the config form.
1, General
  • Enable/Disable hotkey: Set the hotkey to enable or disable AutoSave.
Unlike enable or disable one single application, this hotkey covers whole AutoSave.
That's to say, if you press the hotkey to disable AutoSave, all applications will be disabled to auto save.

  • Show/Hide hotkey: Set the hotkey to fast show or hide AutoSave main window.
This hotkey is only valid when 'Use tray icon' is checked.

  • Use tray icon: Whether use the tray icon on the system tray bar.

Tray bar is the small bar at the right-bottom corner on your Windows desktop.
If you select 'Use tray icon', AutoSave will show its icon on the tray bar.
When AutoSave is minimized, it will hide itself and only leave the tray icon visible.
This feature will save your task bar's space.
To restore AutoSave, left click on the tray icon.
Right click on the tray icon will pop up a menu. You can show/hide, enable/disable or launch application there.

  • Auto run when Windows startup: If it's checked, AutoSave will automatically run when Windows startup.

  • Animate icon when auto saving: If it's checked, the AutoSave icon will be animated during auto save any documents. This feature allows you to monitor whether AutoSave works correctly or not.

  • Show tip on the auto save application: If it's checked, a short description will be displayed when you move the mouse on an application in the program list like the image shown below.

2, Backup
Auto backup certain documents is a new feature from version 2.0.
With the powerful auto backup capability, you can almost 100% set your heart at rest when you work with Photoshop, MS Word, MS Excel or MS PowerPoint.
Now AutoSave can auto backup Photoshop documents, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint documents, and more kinds of documents will be added in the future version on our customers request if we think it's worth to support after our evaluation.
AutoSave supports Photoshop 7, CS, CS 2 and CS 3, MS Office 97, 2000, 2002(XP), 2003 and 2007, include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Important for Photoshop 7 users: To enable AutoSave auto backup for Photoshop 7, you must install the Adobe script support package.
Click here to download the Adobe script support package.
  • Left list box: Select and enable/disable auto backup applications.
You can select an application (Photoshop, Word, Excel or PowerPoint), and enable backup by checking the box or disable by unchecking it.
If you disable backup, there are a piece of text shown in the right panel that give your a short description of that kind of application.
And, besides the description, AutoSave will scan your system to check whether the applications installed on your PC are compatible with AutoSave, and will show some suggestions. These suggestions maybe incorrect if you installed some older or newest software.

  • Application file path name (optional): You'll see the config panel after you enable an application's auto backup.
Fill that box with the file full path name where the application to be auto backuped installed. If you leave it blank, AutoSave will estimate the full path from the auto-save program list.
It's safe to leave it blank for all current support applications.

  • Backup file count (0 to disable backup): Set the backup file count here. Each backup file will be named as file1.ext.bak, file2.ext.bak, etc, and be put to the same folder as the document itself. If the backup file count is 1, the backup file name is file.ext.bak. If the file count is zero, AutoSave won't do any backup.
For security reason, we recommend you keep the number at least 3, and 5 - 9 is a better range.

  • Backup file to path:
Set the path that backup files to. If the path is empty, backup the files to the source files' path. If the path is relative, e.g, test\abc, the backup path is the relative path under the source path. For example, if the source file name is c:\doc\x.doc, the backup files path is c:\doc\test\abc

  • Don't autosave unsaved file (new file): If you check it, AutoSave won't save new document which hasn't been saved yet. This may avoid the 'Save as' dialog pop up. However, we strongly recommend you leave this option unchecked because long time unsaved new document may also cause you lose your work.

  • Don't autosave when backup fails: If you check it, AutoSave won't save the document if it fails to backup the document, that maybe cause you lost your work. You should only check this option when backup is very important to you and you know what you're doing.
